Privacy policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
SideNote Analytics is a Chrome extension that shows Google Analytics 4 figures for the page you are viewing. This policy explains what it reads, where that goes and what it keeps.
What it reads
- Your Google Analytics data, read-only. When you sign in, Chrome gives the extension a token with the
analytics.readonlyscope. It uses that token to list the GA4 properties you can access and to request reports for the page you are on. It cannot change anything in your Analytics account. - The address of the tab where you opened the panel. The page's host and path are used to find the matching property and to filter the reports to that page. The extension does not read the page's content and injects no code into it.
Where it goes
Requests go directly from your browser to Google:
analyticsdata.googleapis.com, the GA4 Data API, for reportsanalyticsadmin.googleapis.com, the GA4 Admin API, for your property list
Nothing is sent to the developer or to any third party. The extension contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code of its own.
What it keeps, and where
All of it stays in your browser's extension storage.
| What | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Report responses | chrome.storage.session | 5 to 30 minutes (property metadata up to 12 hours); cleared when the browser closes |
| Your property list and the property you picked for a site | chrome.storage.local | A week for the list; your picks until you remove the extension |
| Your quiz score for each page | chrome.storage.local | Until you remove the extension |
| Your chosen cards and date range | chrome.storage.sync | Synced by Chrome across your own signed-in browsers |
Removing the extension deletes all of it. Your Google sign-in token is managed by Chrome, not stored by the extension. You can revoke its access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Sharing
"Challenge a friend" copies a line of text with your quiz score to your clipboard. It does not include the site or page, and the extension does not send it anywhere; you decide whether to paste it.
Google API Services User Data Policy
SideNote Analytics' use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
This website
This policy's sections above cover the extension. The website at sidenoteanalytics.com is separate: it uses Google Analytics, through Google Tag Manager, to count visits and see which pages and links are used.
- Only with your consent. Analytics cookies are set only after you click Accept in the cookie banner. Until then, Google receives cookieless signals without identifiers, as part of Google Consent Mode.
- What is measured: pages viewed, clicks on links and buttons, FAQ questions opened, and general device and location information that Google Analytics provides.
- No advertising. The site has no ads and does not use advertising or personalisation cookies.
- Your choice can be changed at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of every page.
Google's handling of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
